NULLIFIERS OF ISLAM -11
By
A. Haroun (Abu Imran)
*Hating any of the things the Prophet (peace be upon him) came with (Qur'aan and the sunnah) even if he himself practices it.*
Allaah says "“But those who disbelieve (in the Oneness of Allah), for them is destruction, and (Allah) will make their deeds in vain. That is because they HATE that which Allah has sent down ( Qur’aan, Islamic laws, etc.), so He has made their deeds fruitless” Q 47:8-9.
It is enough as a nullifier that a person demonstrates hatred for Allaah and his messenger either by actions or speech. Hatred for Allaah is in hating any verse in the Qur'aan and the law it stipulates, while hating the messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) is in hating authentic sunnahs from him (peace be upon him).
There are two conditions for this nullifier to be established;
1. That the person must be aware that that which he hates is established to be from the Qur'an or the sunnah. If he is ignorant of this then he is excused (عذر بالجهل).
2. There should be a consensus among the scholars, that what he hates is from the Qur'aan and the sunnah. As for those matters where there are differences of opinion (إختلافات) then this does not fall under this category.
I have seen people state that any woman who dislikes polygamy has fallen under this category. This is extremism! If a woman hates and rejects the fact that Allaah has permitted her husband to practice polygammy (polygyny), or hates and rejects that such a verse exists or that it implies the permission of polygammy then she falls under this category. But as for those who believe and affirm this right, but dislike that their husbands take another wife, this is just expression of human instinct and is not blameworthy. Perhaps men would have had a greater dislike if they were in their shoes.
It is reported in the saheehayn that the prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) once said in the company of several companions "whoever loves meeting Allaah, Allaah loves to meet him and whoever hates meeting Allaah, Allaah hates meeting him." Then Aa'ishah said " O messenger of Allaah, is this about death? We all hate death! Then the prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said "No, O Aishah! Instead, when a believer is at the point of death, the angels gives him glad tidings of Allaah's mercy and pleasure so he loves to meet Allaah, and Allaah loves to meet him. But when the disbeliever's time comes, he is informed of Allaah's wrath and purnishments and he hates meeting Allaah and Allaah hates to meet him.
So Aishah mentions that we all hate death, but this does not imply that she rejects its existence or hates Allaah for making death our end, wallaahu a'lam.
A point of warning to be taken note of from this nullifier is hating a thing simply because we are unable to practice it. You would find muslims who hate those who keep beards, use the hijaab or even the niqaab! If your eemaan or level of Islamic consciousness and knowledge has not reached the level of practicing an aspect of the sunnah, at least accept it in your heart and pray for steadfastness rather than hating, fighting and ridiculing it to hide your religious ineptitude!
From this nullifier also, there are the plain disbelievers who do not hide their hatred for islaam and all that the prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) brought and then there are the hypocrites who hate it in their hearts but outwardly practice it, hence the addition "even if he practices it himself". As always, we can only judge by the action, as for what is in the heart, it is left for Allaah to judge.
May Allaah grant us steadfastness and increase us in eemaan.
