What Do We Really Want?
By
Ibn 'Abdillah As-sudaisiy Al-Iloori
Sometimes when you try to explain the Sunnah (Islaam as practised by the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and the Companions رضي الله عنهم) to people, with daleel (evidence) from the Qur'an and Sunnah, you will see someone dragging issues with you, despite the fact that he or she admits he or she is ignorant and doesn't have any evidence to back his or her claims.
Sometimes, I think what some people want is not daleel from either Qur'an, Sunnah or both. They want a miracle that would make them to accept what we are saying is the truth. They probably want to hear a strange voice from the sky calling their names one by one, saying:
"O fulan (his or her name), follow what that boy is telling you from the Qur'an and Sunnah, that is the truth and nothing but the truth"
If this nature of miracle is what determines the truth, then what is the essence of the texts (Qur'an and Sunnah)? And by the way, are there any other miracle greater than the Qur'an (and the Sunnah)? The Qur'an and Sunnah had already told us about innovations that people would later bring into the religion of Allaah, and we are warned sufficiently through many verses and hadiths, despite the fact that there wasn't a single innovation in the time of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and his Companions رضي الله عنهم.
What other miracles are we looking for? What do we really want gannn? Those who usually look for extra-ordinary things to happen before they can accept the truth always face disappointments at the end of they. The greatest problem is that they will later fall into the misguidance of mistaking a hoax, deceit and magic for a miracle.
May Allah guide us aright
