Kabir Al-Asfar

A video circulated on social media of Labeeb , who unfortunately is called an Islamic cleric, in which he claimed that  consulting oracles , specifically, the 'ifa' (Yoruba) Oracle is permissible.

In this gathering, if the video hasn't been tampered with, was the Ooni of Ife, the king of the ancestral and spiritual capital of Yorubaland. If this is the case, then it is not strange that the Ooni believes that Islaam originated from the primordial polytheism of yoruba history. Blaming the Ooni may not be as important as blaming dodgy individuals like Labeeb.

So what was Labeeb's evidence?

He argued that when the prophet hid in a tree (hope I heard him well! Wasn't it a cave?!) with Abu Bakrرضي الله عنه , the polytheistic makkans consulted Settiu who divined that the Prophet was in that cave ! Hence consulting the ifa Oracle is permissible! And this man was applauded?!

It is amazing one even needs to respond to arguments this stupid. First and foremost how does the actions of polytheists actively seeking the death of the Prophet صلى الله عليه become evidence?!

Secondly, didn't the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم categorically condemn soothsaying and Soothsayers?!

من أتى عرافاً أو كاهناً فصدقه فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد

Whosoever goes to a soothsayer and believes in what he said has disbelieved in Islaam.

Thirdly, the Settiu mentioned in the story is a more legendary figure than historical, he is said by historians to have no bones except the skull and the yorubalised Settiu is actually the arabic سطيح . You can find mention of him in Qaadi Iyad's  Ash-Shifaa,  at-Tabari's Ta'rikh etc these are books which do not certify the narrations in them as authentic.

Labeeb proudly demonstrates gross ignorance by arguing with an action of polytheists hell bent on killing the Prophetصلى الله عليه وسلم  he claims to follow, an action that isn't even authentic, contradicts authentic narrations and flies in the face of biology ( how does a boneless man survive childhood?!)

May Allaah guide us against the activities of misguided preachers.
