NULLIFIERS OF ISLAM -16

Supporting the polytheists and aiding them against the Muslims...

Allaah says
"...and whoever is an ally to them (Unbelievers) among you -  then indeed, he is (one) of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people."

Supporting Kuffaar may be of five types:

1. Aiding and supporting them against Muslims, while also loving that which they are upon of disbelief, shirk and misguidance. This outrightly nullifies a person's Islaam, because this is the express meaning of the statement 'فإنه منهم' (then he is from them).

2. Assisting them against Muslims against one's wish by virtue of one living in their midst so one is forced to do so. It is feared that such may constitute disbelief. This is different from he who is forced to proclaim disbelief but whose heart is filled with eemaan because while the latter has no alternative, the former has, which is emigration from the midst of the unbelievers if he is forced to support them against Muslims.

When the muslims emigrated from makkah to medinah, there remained some muslims who refused to emigrate not out of love for the kuffaars but to protect their properties, so Allaah revealed the verse

"Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves -  [the angels] will say, "In what [condition] were you?" They will say, "We were oppressed in the land." The angels will say, "Was not the earth of Allah spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?" For those, their refuge is Hell -  and evil it is as a destination." Q 4:97.

The concept of emigration from lands of disbelief is a wide one and scholars have explained conditions mandating them, and one of such is being forced to assist kuffaars against muslims.

This is one of the greatest challenge facing the muslim ummah today. We have muslims in places of authority who are absolutely useless to the religion of Islaam. When Muslims are being oppressed, rather than lend their voice to assist the muslims, they are either silent or even join in the oppression because they fear for their posts and wish to be considered social! Are there no muslims in high places of authority in Lagos who are in a position to speak in favour of Islaam? Yet we continuously get issues of students being victimised over hijab usage! Even in schools like ABU Zaria which we think belongs in a State with muslims as majority, we still have cases of people being victimised for using the hijab! It is pathetic! Sometimes we rejoice that muslims are growing in number, what use is a large number who are of no benefit whatsoever to Islaam? May Allaah rectify our affairs!

3. Assisting Kuffaar against muslims out of personal choice rather than coercion, though he despises the way of the unbelievers, but does so to gain their acceptance and pleasure. Such has committed one of the great sins (kabaair) and it is feared for him lest he becomes a disbeliever!

4. Helping the kuffaar against other kuffaars who have entered into an agreement (peace accord) with the muslims. This is prohibited for it entails breaking the promise of the muslims. The prophet peace be upon him said "whoever kills a mu'aahidan (a kaafir who has entered into an agreement with Muslims) will never perceive the scent of jannah (paradise)". اخرجه البخلري من حديث  عبد الله بن عمرو رضي الله عنهما.

5. Loving the kuffaar, without assisting them against Muslims. This is prohibited. Allaah says O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies (i.e. disbelievers and polytheists, etc.) as friends, showing affection towards them, while they have disbelieved in what has come to you of the truth (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, this Quran, and Muhammad SAW)....." Q 60: 1.

Most people today are afraid to preach this. The fear is, they say you are preaching hostility against non-muslims. This is insincere and far from it. It is rather putting things in the right perspective and establishing the kind of relationship that should exist between people. I certainly don't have a problem with a non-muslim calling me an unbeliever, because I certainly don't believe in what he believes in. So why should it then be a taboo to refer to them in such manner and define the kind of relationship that should exist between us. This does not prevent mu'aamalaat (interactions) with them as appropriate, showing fairness, kindness and gentleness to them in places where there is Peaceful coexistence. It is just hypocrisy on the paths of such muslims who seek to be accepted as liberal and social and to be accepted by non-muslims.

Allaah says "Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity." Q 60:8.

May Allaah show us the truth as truth and zeal to follow it, and show us falsehood as falsehood and the will to stay away from it.
