THE DANCING ELEHA-MAKONDORO AND THE ANTI-SUNNAH NINCOMPOOPS

Last night, I was inundated with messages, both on my Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp about the viral video of a dancing Eleha-Makondoro in public. Particularly, my brother, Olawuyi Dhikrulah Owolabi was so distraught that I could feel his tears in his words. Initially, I allowed my emotions to get the better of me by sharing it on my timeline. However, by the time Abu Imrān sent me the same video, expressing his grief and disappointment, I realized that it wasn’t proper to put such shameless video on my wall so I deleted it quickly.

I’m neither shocked that the Makondoros have descended so lowly and shamelessly as to dance in public, nor am I disappointed that some anti-Sunnah minions have seized that opportunity to launch their usual scathing mockery and ferocious attack on Salafiyyah. What really shocked me was the fact that many of our brothers and sisters were expressing deep shock and disappointment by the shameful deed.

Why are they shocked???

Perhaps the biggest shock for many is the fact that the ladies in the video were wearing Niqāb which depicts them as ahlus-Sunnah. However, this assumption is the farthest thing from the truth. The Zumratul Muslimīn sect, also known as the Makondoros have never been identified, past or present as people of the Sunnah ( ﻋﻘﻴﺪﺓ ﻭﻣﻨﻬﺠﺎ ﻭﻓﻘﻬﺎ). To the ordinary Muslims, they may resemble the people of Sunnah in their cloaks but to the knowledgeable ones, they are but an extension of the Sūfīs, closer in outlook to the Deobandis.

In his article entitled: ﺷﻌﺮ ﺍﻟﻤﻨﺎﺳﺒﺎﺕ ﻟﺪﻯ ﺯﻣﺮﺓ ﺍﻟﻤﺆﻣﻨﻴﻦ ﻓﻲ ﺟﻨﻮﺏ - ﻏﺮﺏ ﻧﻴﺠﻴﺮﻳﺎ in “ILORIN AS A BEACON OF LEARNING AND CULTURE IN WEST AFRICA” (eds. Z.I. OSENI A.G.A.S. OLADOSU B.O. YUSUF M.A. ADEDIMEJI), Al-Kankāwī made the following submissions:

1. The Zumratul Mu’minīn sect was founded in 1907 in Ilorin.

2. The founder of the sect was Shaykh Yúsuf Abubakar Agbaji.

3. Initially, they were nicknamed “Maikangoro” which later metamorphosed to “Makondoro”.

4. They made it as a matter of obligation their male members to wear big turbans on their heads and keep their beards, while their female members must also wear the face veil.

5. They have deep resentment for Western/Conventional knowledge. To them, it is not permitted for a Muslim to be educated in the Western knowledge.

In the light of above and other available facts, I wish to establish the following points:

1. The Makondoros were though renowned scholars in their formative years and staunch Jihadists against idolaters and Kuffār, they were never really regarded as ahlus-Sunnah in their ‘aqīdah, manhaj and fiqh. They differ greatly from the ahlus-Sunnah in so many of their beliefs and actions.

2. The founders of this sect were known ascetics and puritans who lived a spartan life, devoid of love for any material wealth. However, as Allāh says, ﻓﺨﻠﻒ ﻣﻦ ﺑﻌﺪﻫﻢ ﺧﻠﻒ ﺃﺿﺎﻋﻮﺍ ﺍﻟﺼﻼﺓ ﻭﺍﺗﺒﻌﻮﺍ ﺍﻟﺸﻬﻮﺍﺕ , most of the Makondoros today practice pure shirk and even engage in money rituals for themselves and for others.

3. The founders of this sect were scholars who take students from all parts of Yorubaland and accommodate them in their homes for pure Islamic education. Today, this practice, though still in vague is no different from almajirism that has plagued the Northern part of the country. The students are mostly seen roaming the streets and marketplaces, dirty, unkempt and malnourished, begging for alms.

4. Today’s Makondoros are only known for their beautiful recitation of waka at ceremonies. Apart from that, most of them can hardly recite the Qur’ān fluently. As for hadīth, Makondoros are kings in quoting weak and fabricated hadīths.

5. They boast of charms and diabolical powers. Take the loutish and lousy Labeeb Agbaji for instance, apart from boasting about charms and hooliganism, what other knowledge or skill does he have?

6. The female Makondoros are mostly stark ignorant of the Deen. They do not attend any halaqah of Sunnah, except the charades organized by their husbands.

7. The niqāb of the Makondoros does not satisfy a quarter of the conditions stipulated by the Sharī’ah. What matters mostly to them is covering the face. Go to Ibadan and see wonders.

Therefore, the dancing Eleha-Makondoro and her cohorts are neither ahlus-Sunnah nor do they affiliate themselves with the ahlus-Sunnah. They are an ignorant sect who are unaware of the evil of their actions and its consequences on the Muslims. They need an urgent quarantine and lobotomy to reset their heads back to divine factory settings.

As for the Sunnah haters spreading this charade in order to attack the Sunnah, I say, die with your filthy rage.

May Allāh guide us aright and protect us from the evil of the ignorant and misguided sects.
