BEWARE OF THE QUR'ANIYOON

By
Ibn Abdillah As-sudaisiy Al-Iloori

I want to believe that people who are now taught by shayaateen to stick to the Qur'an alone and neglect hadiths also had good intention to learn Islaam and propagate it in the proper manner. But unfortunately, they fell into wrong hands of fake scholars among the "Qur'aniyyoon". Their good intention will not be a sufficient excuse if they die upon that clear misguidance and plain error. Don't be surprised, the kind of damage they would do to unsuspecting Muslims would be massive. The number of Muslims they will mislead would be greater than that of those who are misled by the non-Muslims. That is why we keep emphasizing learning of Islaam from the right sources and appropriate quarters. Don't jump to learn the deen from a scholar merely because he has memorized the Qur'an, he speaks good Arabic and English languages, he has many followers, he is well connected and so on. All these are not as important as checking 'aqeedah first.

Like Imam al-Barbahaaree رحمه الله said in a photo post I made few days ago, we can't learn true Islaam other than from the people of Sunnah. They are the most reliable people to learn from. One single mistake in the area of 'aqeedah can ruin an individual's religious efforts if care is not taken, because one fundamental deviation (if not quickly checked) could lead to greater deviations in the future. For instance, the shi'as had to discredit the Companions رضي الله عنهم before going ahead to discredit the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم. And no one will discredit the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم without discreditting his Lord, Allaah سبحانه وتعالى. A single deviation in 'aqeedah is like a small burning ember. If it is underrated, it could raze down a whole building. Regarding the Munaafiquun, Allah says:

(فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ فَزَادَهُمُ اللَّهُ مَرَضًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْذِبُونَ)

In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie. [Surat Al-Baqarah 10, Saheeh International]

I heard one of my teachers recently, saying: If you sit to listen to a scholar and he says the Qur'an is a "creature of of Allah" (instead of saying it is the "Words of Allah") as against the 'aqeedah of the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa'ah, leave that gathering immediately and do not listen to the scholar ever again

This looks harsh abi? Wa Allahi, it is not. No one will fail the test on the status of the Qur'an, except that he has more deviations that are yet to be made open to you. If you insist on sitting with such a scholar, you will be doing that at your own peril. You will be going out of the deen gradually without knowing. Do yourself a favour, before you begin to listen to someone or take knowledge from someone, endeavour to seek scholarly advice, or meet those who know him very well to know what he is upon. Forget about popularity, celebrity or fame, guide your faith jealously by choosing the right people to teach you your religion.

May Allah guide us aright.
