DA'WAH METHODOLOGY
By
Ibn 'Abdillah As-sudaisiy Al-Iloori
In an authentic hadith in Saheeh Muslim, a preacher was reported to have sworn that Allaah will not forgive his friend for refusing to quit a sin he has been warning him about. Then Allaah said: who is that person swearing upon me that I will not forgive someone. At the end of the day, Allaah forgave the sinner and punished his friend who swore against him. On this, Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه said in the relevant hadith:
"He was a pious person, yet he said something that destroyed his life and hereafter"
LESSON
1. Do not let your emotion overpower you while calling to righteousness. When you preach to people and you see that they are not changing, be patient. Even if you are insulted or provoked by the one you are trying to correct or preaching to, try to control your tongue. Do not curse anyone in the name of da'wah. Islaam is a religion of mercy, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم was a Messenger of hope. Do not speak in a way that would make a sinner to lose hope in Allaah's forgiveness.
2. This is not a licence for a sinner to keep sinning. Allaah is severe in His punishments. Although, Allaah forgives all sins except shirk (if someone dies upon it). As for other sins, if He likes, He forgives and if He likes, He punishes. Do we now know the sins Allaah will forgive and those He would not forgive?
May Allaah guide us aright
