FRIDAY REMINDER (7): SPEAKING AGAINST BID'AH AND ITS PEOPLE
By
Ibn Abdillah As-sudaisiy Al-Iloori
If a so called Islamic organization begins to promote an act of bid'ah or any other evil (eg. Maolid Nabiyy, Nawaafil of the eve of Jan. 1st or Muharram 1st, or Khuruuj against constituted authority), the first thing to do is to warn and admonish its leaders on the dangerous effects of the evils being promoted. But if they fail to take correction and amend their operations to comply with sunnah and the way of the Companions رضي الله عنهم, that organizations is fast becoming a hizb (party) gradually going out of the Sunnah if proper care is not taken.
It is therefore incumbent upon the scholars and their students to warn unsuspecting Muslims against such organizations and their evils. But the warning and admonition should be done in a gentle manner with wisdom and beautiful words. Perhaps, those who are being corrected could have a rethink and tread the path of humility. There are many evidences from the Qur'an and Sunnah on the need to call people to Sunnah (Islaam) in the most beautiful manner.
On the need to always speak out against bid'ah and other evils being perpetrated in our society, Sheikh Fawzaan حفظه الله said:
"It is obligatory to warn against them (i.e. the innovators), and to warn against their evil if it becomes impossible to prevent them from practicing innovation" [Source: Al Irshaad ilaa Saheehil Ittiqaad War Raddu alaa Ahli Ash-Shirki Wal Ilhaad of sheikh fawzaan (Page:455)]
May Allah guide us aright.
