GIVE LEADERS THEIR RIGHT!

By
Ibn Abdillah As-sudaisiy Al-Iloori

Even if leaders fail to give us our rights, in Islaam, we are to still give them their own rights. We can lodge complaints at appropriate government departments (court or agency). If they yield, fine, and if they don't, we take to patience and prayers. We don't go about protesting, rebelling or revolting. The leaders will meet Allaah with whatever they put forward. We can't chose to be bad because the leaders are bad. We can't stop following texts because leaders have stopped following texts. Dying in a state of rebellion is like dying a death of jaahiliyyah.

By a simple illustration, if someone steals your money, is it permissible for you to take laws in your hand in dealing with him like many people do today? Will you approve or resort to jungle justice because our leadership have failed us? The right thing is to hand him over to the law enforcers. So, when leaders don't rule well, complain in offices created for such purposes, negotiate where appropriate, and advise them privately, desist from making inflammatory comments in public. If they fail to yield, then, hand them over to Allaah, the greatest Law Enforcer.

The Health Worker's union in Nigeria went on strike for some months, a lot of people died. Yet, their demands weren't met. Apart from that, those health workers were not paid during the strike, they suffered so much with their families. Up till now, the two months salary they were owed has not been paid. So, how is strike our solution? Would Allaah not ask them about those who died on the ground of lack of treatment?

May Allaah guide us aright.
