REASSESSMENT OF OUR APPROACH TO DA'WAH

By
Ibn Abdillah As-sudaisiy Al-Iloori

Yesterday, I spent almost 2 hours or thereabout discussing with our Sheikh, Justice Ahmad Sayi حفظه الله in his office. Throughout the discussion, he kept emphasizing mannerism and studying of our environment as a panacea to challenges of da'wah of Sunnah in our society.

If we continue to isolate ourselves from a society we intend to reform, how is it possible for us to achieve the our aims and objectives? By this, we do not mean we should mix with people of bid'ah indiscriminately. There are better ways of doing the job if we can sit to agree on some points. We need to be frank with ourselves, our approach to da'wah needs some assessments and adjustments. We need to create time to restrategize and purify our intentions as far as this task is concerned.

The Sheikh is confident that the Sunnah would penetrate the nooks and crannies of our society. But we must be strategic in our approaches. I narrated my experience about our Central Mosque to him. He stressed the need for us to move our da'wah close to the elites with sincere intention to guide them. Many of them don't know what we are saying. Until we move close to explain to them with wisdom and practical illustrations, they would continue to see us as rebels. The elites of a society are its oxygen. Once they are captured, the rest of the community would not have any other choice and our society would be a better place.

May Allah guide us aright.
