KEEPING OUR HOMES ALIVE WITH 'IBAADAH DURING THE LOCKDOWN

By
Ibn Abdillah As-sudaisiy Al-Iloori

As for those who insist on praying in Masaajid despite scholarly verdicts and government orders as precautionary measures on COVID-19, what about these Hadiths:

وَجُعِلَتْ لِي اَلْأَرْضُ مَسْجِدًا وَطَهُورًا

The earth has been made for me (and my followers) a place for praying and something with which to perform Tayammum (to purify oneself for prayer). [Bukhari]

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم also said:

"‏ لا تجعلوا بيوتكم مقابر"

"Do not turn your houses into graveyards" (Muslim)

Even though it is wajib (obligatory) for us (men) to pray at masaajid (when there is no any impediment or genuine excuse not to), when a condition calls for locking down the Masjid and pray at home, there is no problem about this since all lands  are suitable for prayers and purification, except the cemetery and places of impurity. Allāh knows best, the situation we find ourselves is an opportunity to keep our homes alive with some ibaadaat till the fitnah subsides or completely lifted from us.

Don't be surprised that in some home, remembrance of Allāh is dying or has even dead. Some people are active in da'wah away from home, and their homes are filled with ignorance and negligence of the true teneta of Islam (Sunnah). With this global trial, everyone is now sitting up. Even if it is one Hadith or a verse that you can understand through the translated versions, begin to teach your wife and children with special emphasis on the Sunnah and Creed of the Salaf. It would make some impacts and Allāh will reward you. Allah says:

O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded. [Surat At-Tahrim 6]

May Allah forgive our sins and guide us aright.
